Tale of the Tape: Central Edition

Northridge hosted Central for the WVUA Game of the Week at The Ridge on Friday. And, it turned out to be just what a game of the week should be. Although the Jags led the entire game, it was never really out of reach for the Falcons until the Jags were awarded the ball after an onside kick attempt was touched by the Falcons before it traveled the required 10 yards. As might be expected in a 17-10 game, the stats weren’t awe inspiring, but they show just how close these two teams are.

In the passing/receiving category . . . Rowdy Christensen completed 1-of-2 passes (yes, that is correct) for 30 yards and one touchdown. The lone catch was a hauled in by Colin Kapilovic and resulted in the first touchdown of the game. Well, that was easy.

In the rushing category . . . Brylon Tubbs led the Jags with 19 carries for 111 yards and one touchdown. His longest run was 35 yards. Mayson Elam wasn’t far behind, totaling 91 yards on 19 carries. Elam’s longest run was 23 yards. Keith Powell had two critical carries, each going for a first down for the Jags. Powell totaled 43 yards and the longest was 29 yards. Christensen rounded out the category with 4 carries for 5 yards, with his longest being 7 yards.

The Jags totaled 280 yards of total offense, ending with a total of 250 yards on the ground, to go with the 30 through the air. (Quick note: The Falcons had 253 yards of total offense with 162 passing and 91 rushing – following true to the season totals for these two teams, up to this game. They were very evenly matched coming into this game.)

Notables: The Jags had NO turnovers in the game. Considering the number of previous turnovers that led to points for their opponents, this was definitely notable. Coaches indicated that ball security was addressed all week and it paid off. The Falcons did have two touchdowns called back on penalties and did drop two passes – which could have changed the game. Outside of those four plays, the defense performed admirably again. Hard fought, solid victory for the Jags to get to 2-1 in region play.
