Jags take down Huskies, 48-46
The Northridge Jaguars boys basketball team traveled to Trussville on Tuesday to take on the Hewitt-Trussville Huskies. After taking a 5-point halftime lead, the Jags had to fight to hold off the Huskies to take the 2-point victory, 48-46.
The Jags established a slim, single point lead at 12-11 after one quarter of play. Northridge extended that lead to 25-20, outscoring Hewitt-Trussville 13-9 in the second quarter.
The Huskies picked up their by-quarter scoring and put 13 on the board in the third, while allowing the Jags on 10 points. The result was a 35-33 lead for the Jags.
The last quarter saw both teams put 13 points on the board, but the two point lead after three quarters gave Northridge the 48-46 win.
The Jags shot 50% from the floor, while holding the Huskies to 37.2%. Also of note, the Jags went 10/13 free throws for 76.9%, with the Huskies hitting 11/21 for 52.4%.
While no Jags got into double digits, nine got into the scoring column of the stat sheet. Anderson Wilkin and Ryan Halperin totaled nine points each. Jalen Green tacked on eight points, with Kyle Nunnally and Jordan Suiter adding seven each. Garrett Ingram chipped in three points. Andrew Matthews and Miles Phifer added tow each and Tavares Jones contributed one point.
Suiter cleared eight boards, to lead Northridge in rebounds. Green and Halperin grabbed six rebounds each. Wilkin added five rebounds. Matthews, Jones and Phifer corralled two rebounds each. Ingram and Adam Hall pulled down one rebound each. The Jags outrebounded the Huskies 35-24.
Of note, Hall blocked three Huskie shots, with Nunnally, Green, Jones, Suiter and Halperin getting one block each – for a total of eight blocked shots.
