Jags heat up against Trojans, take 69-38 win

Northridge Hoops hosted the Trojans from New Hope, MS on Tuesday and handed the visitors a 31-point loss. On a first impression basis, the Trojans looked like they would be hard to handle. The visitors were noticeably bulkier than the Jags and, through the first few minutes of the game, attempted to use that to their advantage. However, Northridge was able to match the physical play with finesse and, most importantly, points on the board. The Jags didn’t lose a single quarter to the Trojans and followed up a 34-15 halftime lead with a 69-38 victory.

Northridge came out with a purpose in the first quarter. When the horn sounded, the Jags had a 23-9 lead. In their slowest quarter of the evening, the Jags added 10 points to their total in the second quarter. However, New Hope was only able to add six to their side of the scoreboard, resulting in a 23-9 lead for Northridge.

The third quarter was the closest of any period in the game. The Trojans scored 13 points, but the Jags bested them by one, scoring 14. The final quarter saw Northridge double up (plus one) the Trojans, outscoring New Hope 21-10. The final buzzer finalized a 31-point win for the Jags, 69-38.

The game saw Northridge post its best field goal percentage of the young season, hitting an overall 51.9% from the floor. The Jags were 21/31, 67.7%, inside the 3-point arc.

A total of 10 Jags got in the scoring column on the evening. Anderson Wilkin led Northridge with 17 points. Miles Phifer was the only other Jag in double digits, with 10 points. Andrew Matthews chipped in eight points and Ryan Halperin added seven. Garrett Ingram, Jalen Green and Adam Hall tallied five each, with Kyle Nunnally and Jordan Suiter contributing 4 apiece.
