Lady Jags finish area play with 54-38 win over Bryant

The Northridge Lady Jags basketball team wrapped up regular season area play with a 54-38 win over the Lady Stampede from Paul W. Bryant. Even though the Lady Jag lead fluctuated between 14 and 16 points, it was not an easy win, by any means. In the end, Northridge was victorious and finished undefeated in Class 6A Area 6 play (6-0).

The Lady Jags set the tone for the game in the first quarter, opening up a 19-4 lead after one quarter of play. Even though they only scored five points in the first quarter and allowed 10 points, Northridge headed into the locker room at halftime with a 14-point lead at 24-10.

Northridge picked up the offensive output in the third, adding another 15-points to their total. And, even after allowing 12 points to the Lady Stampede, the Lady Jags still held a 15-point lead, 37-22, going into the final period of play. Once again, the two opponents kept the scoring in the quarter close, with Northridge scoring 17 points to Bryant’s 16 points. The big first quarter lead paid dividends, with the final score coming in at 54-38.

Ryan Bardenwerper led the Lady Jags with a career high 32 points, tying a single game record of seven made 3-point shots. In addition to the 32 points, Bardenwerper collected four rebounds and had three steals. Jakeya Horton added seven points, six rebounds and four steals. Taylor Ivory finished with six points, and six assists. LaMiah Foy had four points and added five steals. RB Norris also added three points.

With the regular season title in hand, we now wait for a date for the area tournament, which will be held at The Ridge.
