Jags Area 6 runner-up after falling to Bryant, 76-49

We were hoping that the mad dash across town to Paul W. Bryant High School following the Lady Jags’ game would be rewarded with a sweep of the Class 6A Area 6 tournament. But, unfortunately, that wasn’t in the cards. The Stampede secured a 9-point lead after one quarter and steadily added to that lead in succeeding quarters to eventually hand the Jags a 76-49 loss.

Northridge started the game in a hole and was never able to get out of it, with the score at 6-2 when we arrived with almost two minutes gone in the first quarter. That didn’t get any better, as the Stampede ended the first quarter of play with a 14-5 lead. The Jags picked up their scoring output in the second quarter, putting 11 points on the board. However, Bryant added 19 to their total, to take a 33-16 lead into halftime.

Northridge heated up in the third quarter, scoring 20 points – only to be one-upped by the Stampede, who scored 21. That resulted in a 54-36 lead for Bryant, to start the final quarter of play. When the dust settled, Bryant had added another 22 points to their total, while the Jags added 13. In the end, Northridge just couldn’t get over the hump, and while never throwing in the towel, the Jags ended up on the wrong end of a 76-49 final score.

Adam Hall led the Jags with 13 points. James Walker and Elias Fleming finished with seven points each. Mize Parker, Max Bruinton and Tavares Jones totaled four points each. Andrew Matthews, Graham Patton and Miller James contributed three points apiece. And Garrett Ingram rounded out the Jags’ scoring column with one point.

Hall and Andrews were named to the All-Tournament team.

The Northridge boys will travel to Pelham, to take on the Panthers (29-2), in the sub-regional on Saturday at 6PM.
