Huskies knock Jags out of playoffs, 68-54

The Jags traveled to Helena to take on the Huskies on Saturday. The Jags had defeated the Huskies twice during the regular season, but the third win in the same season, over a talented team, can be hard to come by. That’s what happened to the Jags as the Huskies knocked the Jags out of the AHSAA playoffs, 68-54.

The Huskies came out hot in the first quarter and the Jags were warm. The Huskies outscored the Jags 17-11, for a six point lead after one. The Jags cooled off in the second, only scoring seven points. The Huskies managed to stay relatively warm, scoring 16, to hold a 33-18 lead going into the half.

The Jags heated up, to the tune of 21 third quarter points. The Huskies put 15 on the board and ended the quarter with a 48-39 lead. Unfortunately, the script flipped in the final quarter, with the Huskies putting 20 on the board and the Jags only adding 15 to their game total. The result was a 68-54 win for the homestanding Huskies.

Anderson Wilkin led the Jags with 17 points. Jonas Wilkin and John Walker contributed 11 points each. Marquez Barrera chipped in nine for the Jags. Kyle Nunnally added four and Jalen Green added two. Green and the Wilkin brothers were credited with one assist each.

Walker pulled down seven rebounds. Jordan Suiter and Anderson Wilkin had four rebounds each. Barrera, Green and Jack Sanderson tallied two rebounds each, with Jonas Wilkin pulling down one rebound. Walker had four blocks on the night and Suiter had one block.

For the second game in a row, the Jags’ opponents were clicking on all cylinders. The Huskies overall field goal percentage was 67.4%, opposed to the Jags’ 44.4%. The Jags hit 6 of 20 three point attempts, for 30%. The Huskies hit six of their eight attempts, for a 75% 3-point outing.

The Jags end the 2023-2024 season with a very respectable 25-6 record (81%). Unfortunately, the Jags went 4-4 in their last eight games, with all four of those losses coming in region or playoff play. In victory or defeat, GO JAGS!!
