Jags Baseball holds off Sipsey Valley, 3-2

Northridge Baseball picked up single runs in innings two, three and four to take a 3-0 lead into the seventh inning against Sipsey Valley on Tuesday. But, the Bears weren’t ready to give up and put two on the board in the top of the seventh with two outs. The Jags were able to strand the tying run at second to end the game with a 3-2 victory.

After a scoreless first inning, Thomas Woolf got the Jags started in the second with a leadoff single. Evan Malone followed with a hit to right, allowing Woolf to advance to third, while Malone made it to second on the play. After a fly out to center, Logan Caldwell drew a walk to load the bases. Cade Senn put the ball in play and Woolf scored on a fielder’s choice. The inning ended with the Jags holding a 1-0 lead.

Northridge picked up their second run of the game in the second inning. Milo Obradovich reached on a single to right and reached second on a wild pitch. Jack Sanderson walked, putting runners at first and second. Woolf followed with his second single of the game, advancing Adam Hall (courtesy runner for Obradovich) to third and Sanderson to second. After a strikeout, Anthony Messina drew a walk, scoring Hall from third, giving Northridge a 2-0 lead.

The Jags’ half of the third started with two quick outs. Kyle Nunnally was able to reach first on a error and subsequently stole second base and moved to third when the throw-down went into center field. Obradovich followed up with a single to score Nunnally and give the Jags a 3-0 lead.

The runs column on the scoreboard didn’t move again until the top of the seventh. When it did, the lights came on for Sipsey Valley. With two outs and a runner in scoring position, Logan Caldwell struck out what would be the Bears’ final batter to secure the 3-2 win for the Jags.

Woolf and Obradovich led the Jags with two hits each. Nunnally and Messina collected one hit each for Northridge. Obradovich, Messina and Cade Senn were credited with RBIs for the Jags. Nunnally and Woolf were credited with runs scored.

Caldwell notched a complete game on the mound, striking out 10 and giving up only two walks, while surrendering two runs on four hits.
