Lady Jags Softball totals 35 runs in two games Saturday

The Northridge Lady Jags gave the scoreboard a workout on Saturday morning at The Ridge. On their way to scoring 35 total runs on the day, the Lady Jags scored 13 runs in the first inning against Lamar County, their first opponent of the day, and scored 10 runs in the first against Gordo. Unlike their previous couple of games, where the Lady Jags were subjected to 26 walks, the Lady Jags totaled 30 hits on Saturday. The result of all the runs and hits was a 20-1 win over Lamar County and a 15-3 win over Gordo.

GAME 1 vs Lamar County

In the first inning against Lamar County, Mary Hayes Henderson, Anna Cate Henderson and Berkley Davis were hit by pitch, along with Mills Hitchner being hit twice. Madelyn Abston walked twice. Riley Hollingshead, Mary Hayes Henderson, Anna Cate Henderson, Sarah Copeland and MayMay Williams registered hits during the first inning. The Lady Jags totaled 13 runs in first inning. Lamar County (designated the home team) was unable to score in the bottom of the first, giving Northridge the 13-0 lead.

The Lady Jags bats took some downtime in the second inning, but managed to briefly come back to life in the third inning when Anna Cate Henderson doubled in Mary Hayes Henderson, who had doubled in the previous at-bat. That gave Northridge a 14-0 lead after three innings.

Northridge came back to life in the top of the fourth, scoring six more runs. Williams, Hollingshead, Davis, Mary Hayes Henderson, Anna Cate Henderson, Hitchner and Copeland added to their hit totals, once each, in the inning. Lamar County was able to plate a single run in the bottom of the fourth, resulting in the 20-1 final score (called due to 15-run rule).

Mary Hayes Henderson and Anna Cate Henderson led the Lady Jags at the plate, with both going 3-for-3. Copeland, Williams and Hollingshead picked up two hits each for Northridge. Hitchner and Davis picked up one hit each. Anna Cate Henderson, Hitchner, Copeland and Williams totaled three RBIs each. Mary Hayes Hednerson had two RBIs, while Anna Grace Reed, Hollingshead and Davis contributed one RBI each. Mary Hayes Henderson led Northridge win the runs scored category with four and was followed by Abston and Anna Cate Henderson with three each. Reed, Hitchner, Williams and Davis scored twice. Copeland, and Hollingshead crossed the plate one time each for the Lady Jags.

GAME 2 vs Gordo

Mary Hayes Henderson (2), Hitchner, Hollingshead, Emma Kate Dickey, Davis, Reed (2) and Anna Cate Henderson recorded hits in the first inning for the Lady Jags. Those hits and a couple walks to Abston led to Northridge putting 10 runs on the board in the top of the first inning. The Lady Jags held Gordo scoreless in the bottom of the first to lead 10-0.

Copeland started the top of the second with a single and Williams drew a walk. Hollingshead double to center to score Copeland and advance Williams to third. Dickey grounded to third, allowing Williams to score, with Hollingshead ending up at third. Davis drew a walk and Reed grounded into a fielder’s choice which allowed Hollingshead to score, increasing the Lady Jags’ lead to 13-0. Gordo went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the second.

Both teams’ gave the scoreboard a break in the third and fourth innings. Northridge was able to tack another two on the board in the top of the fifth inning. Reed and Abston drew walks, as the 1-2 batters. Mary Hayes Henderson’s ground out to first moved Reed and Abston up a base. Anna Cate Henderson doubled to score Reed. Copeland singled to plate Abston with the Lady Jag’s final run of the game. Gordo was able to score three in the bottom of the fifth, to make the final 15-3 in favor of the Lady Jags.

Anna Cate Henderson and Copeland went 3-for-4 for Game 2. Reed, Mary Hayes Henderson, Hitchner and Hollingshead collected two hits each. Dickey and Davis added one hit each. Anna Cate Henderson totaled three RBIs. Reed, Mary Hayes Henderson, Copeland and Dickey drove in two runs each. Hitchner, Hollingshead and Davis added one RBI each. Reed and Abston scored three runs each, while Copeland and Hollingshead scored two runs each. Mary Hayes Henderson, Hitchner, Williams, Dickey and Davis scored one run each.
