Jags corral Stampede, 8-0

Evan Malone kept the Paul W. Bryant batters in check at the plate and the Jags offense put together two 4-run innings to take down the Stampede for the second time in as many days. After taking a 15-3 win the day before, the Jags claimed an 8-0 shutout in Thursday’s early game.

After a 3-up, 3-down top of the first, the Jags put four runs on the board in the bottom of the inning. Mayson Elam led off with a double down the line to left. Cade Senn’s sacrifice to second moved Elam to third. Milo Obradovich then singled to center to drive in Elam. Jack Sanderson’s single moved Obradovich to third. A passed ball allowed Sanderson to advance to second. Thomas Woolf drew a walk to load the bases. Malone helped his own cause with a sacrifice to center that plated Obradovich, and moved Sanderson and Woolf up a base. Logan Caldwell got into the hit and RBI columns with a single to center that scored Sanderson and Woolf. At the end of one, the Jags were up 4-0.

Both teams took the next three innings off and the Jags used the time to recharge their bats. In the bottom of the fifth, Senn led off with a single and moved to second on a passed ball. Obradovich grounded out to second, moving Senn to third. Sanderson followed with a single to center, plating Senn. After an out, Malone singled to left, moving Sanderson to second. Caldwell singled to left, which moved Sanderson to third and Aiden Avery (courtesy runner for Malone) to second. Anthony Messina roped a triple down the line in left, scoring Sanderson, Avery and Caldwell. Those were the final runs of the day for the Jags.

Neither team scored in the sixth inning and the Stampede batters were sent back to the dugout in order in the top of the seventh, giving the Jags the 8-0 shutout.

Elam, Obradovich, Sanderson and Caldwell collected two hits apiece for the Jags. Senn, Malone and Messina registered one hit each. Messina led the Jags with 3 RBIs. Caldwell contributed two RBIs, with Obradovich, Sanderson and Malone adding one RBI each. Sanderson scored twice. Elam, Senn, Obradovich, Woolf and Caldwell scored once each.

Malone went the distance on the mound, allowing one hit, no runs. Malone struck out 13 batters and only walked one, over seven complete innings.
