Lady Jags Softball drops Holy Spirit on Senior Night, 6-2

Northridge High School honored the 2024 Lady Jags Seniors on Wednesday and NHS Assistant Principal Jeff Cameron threw out the honorary first pitch.

The Northridge Lady Jags softball team celebrated Senior Night with a 6-2 win over the visitors from Holy Spirit. After the Lady Saints took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, the Lady Jags held their opponents scoreless for the remainder of the game and scored six unanswered runs to take the 6-2 win.

As we’ve already mentioned, the Lady Saints jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. It took Northridge an inning to get warmed up and they scored a single run in the bottom of the second. Elliott Williams drew a walk to lead off for the Lady Jags. Avery Vick singled to left, moving Williams to second base. Shelby Savage followed with a single to right, plating Williams with the single run for the Lady Jags.

In the bottom of the third, the Lady Jags picked up a second run to tie the game at 2-2. After an fly out in the infield started the inning, Mary Hayes Henderson singled to right. A fly out to center followed Henderson. Williams second at-bat resulted in an error that allowed Henderson to score and Williams to get all the way to third. However, that would be the only run of the inning for Northridge.

The next two and one half innings were quiet for both teams. But, the Lady Jags bats came alive in the bottom of the sixth. After the first out of the inning, Lily Feely reached on an infield single. Feely remained at first after a fly out to the shortstop. With two outs, Anna Grace Reed ripped a triple to left, sending Feely across the plate. Rhylynn Page followed with a single that scored Reed. Mary Hayes Henderson took one pitch, then launched the ball over the fence in center to add the final two runs of the game for the Lady Jags, resulting in the 6-2 final score.

Anna Cate Henderson delivered a complete game from the circle, striking out eight and walking two, while giving up two runs on seven hits.
