Lady Jags Soccer advances to second round of playoff

The Northridge Girls Varsity soccer team opened the 6A playoffs with a resounding 10-2 win over Calera. The scoring was opened by freshman Maddie Vanderlyke just one minute and seventeen seconds into the match off an assist from Kenley Myers. Just 30 seconds later, senior Ella Johnson scored her first of 3 goals for the match. Calera scored off of a penalty kick before sophomore Lilee Becker scored with 19:25 left in the opening half. Senior Kenley Myers closed out the first half scoring off a great throw in by Piper Payne and the Jags took a 4-1 lead into halftime.

The Jags opened the second half strong as they poured in 3 goals in the first 3 minutes. Sophomore Maddie McVeigh scored off an assist from Ella Johnson. Vanderlyke scored her second goal of the game just seconds later off Myers’ second assist of the game. Johnson then got her second goal off a pass from freshman MC James. With 32 minutes left, Johnson completed her hat trick with her third goal off an assist from Vanderlyke. James closed out the scoring with 2 goals at the 30 minute mark and again with 21 minutes remaining. Assists were by freshman Emma Sanderford and 8th grader Sophie Maxwell. 

The Jags move on the the second round next week against the winner of Hillcrest vs Benjamin Russell High School.
