Jags Baseball takes doubleheader from Baldwin County – 10-1, 11-6

After starting off the spring break week with two road wins over the Kosciusko, MS Whippets, the Northridge Jaguar Varsity Jags baseball team made it a clean sweep over the 2025 Spring Break. The Jags hosted the Baldwin County Tigers at The Ridge and outscored the visitors 21-7 over the two games. Game One saw Northridge take a 10-1 win and Game Two resulted in an 11-6 win for the Jags.

Game One

Baldwin County scored their lone run of the game in the top of the second inning, taking a 1-0 lead. The Jags answered with a single run of their own in the bottom of the second to tie it up at 1-1. Grayson Cannon scored the Jags run on a single from Tayte Dunn, after Cannon walked and stole second.

Northridge scored at least one run in each of the subsequent innings, with the exception of the bottom half of the seventh inning.

In the home half of the third, Kyle Nunnally doubled as the lead-off batter. Mayson Elam reached on a error at first base, allowing Nunnally to score. Elam scored on a ground out by John Pruet. Wyatt Rath’s walk was followed by a double from Evan Malone. Rath scored on a ground out by Thomas Woolf, giving the Jags a 4-1 lead.

Northridge picked up two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Dunn walked in his second at-bat and Aiden Avery came in as a courtesy runner. Nunnally singled to move Avery to second. Elam’s sacrifice moved Avery to third and Nunnally to second. Pruet’s grounder to second allowed Avery to score and Nunnally to advance to third. Rath’s second at-bat produced a single that scored Nunnally for the 6-1 lead for the Jags.

The Jags picked up three more runs in the bottom of the fifth, staring with a lead-off double by Cannon. Sawyer Thompson sacrificed Cannon to third. Dunn walked, then Nunnally sacrificed to center, allowing Cannon to score. Elam singled in Avery (running for Dunn), after Avery stole second and third. Pruet followed with a single to right, scoring Elam, who had stolen second. After five complete, the Jags were up 9-1.

The last Northridge run came in the bottom of the sixth, when Malone scored after leading off with a walk. Malone’s run came after Woolf , Cannon and Thompson drew walks and Malone scored on a passed ball with the bases loaded. The Jags held the Tigers scoreless in the top of the seventh, to ear the 10-1 win.

Nunnally led the Jags at the plate, going 2-for-3. Elam, Pruet, Rath, Malone, Cannon and Dunn collected one hit each. Pruet led with 3 RBIs. Elam, Rath, Woolf, Dunn and Nunnally recorded one RBI each. Elam, Cannon and Nunnally scored twice each, with Rath and Malone scoring once each.

Woolf notched a complete game on the mound, giving up the lone run on three hits, while striking out seven and walking two.

Game Two

After Baldwin County jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the top if the first, it took the Jags another inning to get things rolling. And, boy, did they get things rolling. Northridge dropped nine runs on the board in the bottom of the second inning.

Evan Malone started things off with a walk. After the first out, Grayson Cannon singled to center. Both runners advanced a base on a passed ball. Sawyer Thompson singled to left, scoring Malone and sending Cannon to third. After Thompson made it to second uncontested, Tayte Dunn doubled to drive in Cannon and Thompson, giving Northridge a 3-1 lead. Aiden Avery entered to run for Dunn. Kyle Nunnally walked on four straight pitches. Mayson Elam followed with a single to load the bases. John Pruet singled to short, scoring Avery and keeping the bases loaded. A balk scored Nunnally and advanced all other base runners. Wyatt Rath was hit by pitch to load the bases yet again. Up for the second time in the inning, Malone singled to right, scoring Elam, with all other runners advancing one base. A passed ball allowed Pruet to score and all runners to advance a base. After a fly out to left, Cannon’s second hit of the inning, a double, plated Rath and Malone, giving the Jags a 9-1 lead.

Things were quiet until the top of the fifth, when the Tigers scored five runs, cutting the the Northridge lead to three runs at 9-6. The Jags answered with two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth. Dunn drew a walk to start things off and Avery entered to run for the catcher. A sacrifice by Nunnally moved Avery to second. Elam grounded to third, but an error allowed Avery to score and Elam to advance all the way to third base. After Pruet walked, Rath sacrificed to left, allowing Elam to score the final run of the game, giving the Jags an 11-6 that held for the next inning and a half.

Elam, Pruet and Thomson all went 2-for-3 at the plate. Cannon notched two hits. Malone and Dunn collected one hit each. Elam and Malone scored two runs each, with Pruet, Rath, Cannon, Thompson and Nunnally scoring one run. Cannon and Dunn collected two RBIs each. Pruet, Rath, Malone and Thompson were credited with one RBI each.

Adam Hall completed three innings on the mound to record the win, giving up one run on one hit, while striking out three and walking none. Burns Brumfield served 1-1/3 innings on the mound, surrendering five runs on six hits, walking one and striking out two. Caden Chaney delivered 1-2/3 innings of relief, striking out three and walking one, with no hits or runs. Ellis Tucker contributed one inning on the mound, striking out two, walking none and giving up no hits and no runs.
