Jags come up short against Stampede, 62-52

In what has become somewhat of a marquee high school basketball matchup in Tuscaloosa, the Northridge Jaguars found themselves on the short end of the score with a high-energy game against their cross-town rival, the Paul W. Bryant Stampeded. After battling to a 1-point difference after one quarter, the Stampede added to their lead for the remaining quarters, finalizing a 10-point, 62-52 win.

As expected, the game was a battle from the start. Jordan Suiter and Ryan Halperin came out hot for the Jags, scoring 12 (six points each) of their 13 first quarter points. However, the Stampede bested those 13 with 14 points of their own to take a 14-13 lead after one quarter of play. Northridge output slowed a little in the third, with the Jags adding nine to their total. The Stampede managed to double their first quarter output, to take a 28-22 halftime lead.

Suiter and Halperin turned in another solid performance in the third quarter, scoring 12 of the Jags’ 16 points. Unfortunately, Bryant added 19 in the third, giving them a 47-38 advantage. In the fourth, Suiter and Halperin were the only two Jags to get into the scoring book, totaling all 14 of Northridge’s points. Bryant outscored Northridge by one for the quarter, resulting in the 62-52 win for the Stampede.

Suiter led the Jags with 28 points, with Halperin adding 17. Unfortunately, no other Jags totaled over three points. Adam Hall claimed those three. Anderson Wilkin had two points, with Jalen Green and Kyle Nunnally getting in the book with one point each.
