Jags get area win over Stampede, 56-44

The Northridge Jags used strong first and third quarters to claw their way to an area win over the visiting Paul W. Bryant Stampede on Tuesday night at The Ridge. The intensity of the game over the full four quarters led to the feeling that the game was closer than the final 12 point margin of victory, 56-44.

The Jags took a few possessions to finally break the ice, but heated up to pull out to a 12-4 lead at the end of one quarter. The second quarter scoring was much more even, with the Jags outscoring the Stampede 14-12 to go into halftime with a 10-point, 26-16 lead. The biggest load of the Jags’ second quarter points came from John Walker, who finished with nine of the Jag’s 14 points.

The third quarter saw the Jags run out to a 19-point lead at 46-27, thanks to a 20-11 scoring advantage. The Stampede rallied in the fourth quarter and scored 17 points, but the Jags added a final 10 to their total for a somewhat comfortable (by the score), yet hard fought victory, 56-44.

Walker and Anderson Wilkin led the Jags with 19 points each. Marquez Barrera and Jack Sanderson chipped in eight points each. Jordan Suiter added two points. Anderson Wilkin hit four 3-pointers, Walker had three and Barrera was 2-for-2 from behind the stripe.

Walker totaled five assists on the night. Jonas Wilkin, Ryan Halperin and Anderson Wilkin were credited with two assists each and Barrera had one.

Walker led the way with 12 rebounds, five on the offensive end and seven on the defensive end. Sanderson tallied six total rebounds. Barrera, Suiter and Anderson Wilkin had three rebounds each. Halperin had two rebounds and Jonas Wilkin added one rebound. Barrera also notched one steal.
