Jags scorch Panthers in Game 1 of Area Tournament, 99-37

The Northridge Jaguars started a little slow on Monday night in the first game of the AHSAA Class 6A Area 6 championship tournament. But it didn’t take long for that to change. At one point, the Jags trailed the Brookwood Panthers 11-7. However, Northridge caught fire and finished the game with a 92-26 run that saw the Jags almost flip the scoreboard at Paul W. Bryant High School.

As mentioned, the Jags actually trailed the Panthers, close to half way through the first quarter. Northridge turned things around and held a 17-11 lead with 2:25 to go. In the final two minutes, the Jags added another 15 points and held the Panthers scoreless, to take a 32-11 lead after one quarter of play. The Jags’ scoring cooled off a bit, with Northridge outscoring Brookwood 19-13 in the second quarter. The result was a 53-24 lead for the Jags going into haltime.

The third quarter saw Northridge keep up the pace of their previous quarter, outscoring Brookwood 20-8, for a 73-32 lead after three quarters. In the final quarter, the Jags got as close to a 100-point game as possible, without actually getting there. The Jags scored an additional 26 points and had a few opportunities to flip the scoreboard, but just couldn’t make it happen. The Panthers added five, resulting in the 99-37 win, sending the Jags to the championship game on Wednesday, back at Bryant.

Northridge had five players score double figures on the night and every Jag made their mark in the scoring column. Adam Hall led with 13 points. Garrett Ingram and Ryan Halperin totaled 12 points each. Jordan Suiter ended the evening with 11, with Andrew Matthews rounding out the double-digits gang with 10. Jalen Green finished with eight points. James Walker and Tavares Jones contributed seven points apiece. Anderson Wilkin finished with six points and Miles Phifer had four. Kyle Nunnally, Miller James and Alex Warren hit 3-pointers on the evening.
