Jags Softball notches 8-3 win over Pickens County

The Lady Jags traveled to Pickens County to take on Friday to take on the Lady Tornadoes. After dropping a couple games, Northridge bounced back with an 8-3 win in the three inning game.

The Lady Jags picked up all the runs they would need to take the victory in the top of the first inning, exploding for five runs. Mills Hitchner reached on an error and made it to third base, to lead things off. Anna Cate Henderson plated Hitchner on a sacrifice fly to center field, giving the Lady Jags a 1-0 lead. Mary Hayes Henderson followed Anna Cate with a walk. Avery Vick, who came in to pinch run for Mary Hayes, stole second, but was caught stealing third. Shelby Savage followed up by drawing a walk. MayMay Williams doubled to left and advanced to third on an error, while Savage came around to score, increasing the Lady Jags’ lead to 2-0. With Williams at third, Ruthie Weeks drew a walk. Williams stole home, for the 3-0 lead, and Weeks advanced to second. Berkley Davis reached first on an error and advanced to second, while Weeks scored from second on the play, resulting in a 4-0 lead for the Lady Jags. Next up, Laura Bushhorn singled to center and Davis reached third. Madelyn Abston came in to run for Davis and eventually scored, giving Northridge a 5-0 lead.

Pickens County picked up a single run in the bottom of the first.

As the second batter of the top of the second inning, Mary Hayes Henderson doubled and Vick came in as a courtesy runner. Vick scored on a passed ball to give the Lady Jags a 6-1 lead.

I the top of the third, Hitchner drew a walk and stole second. Anna Cate Henderson’s single scored Hitchner, for a 7-1 Northridge lead. Mary Hayes Henderson followed with a double to left, scoring Anna Cate for an 8-1 Lady Jags’ lead. Pickens County added two runs in the bottom of the third, for the 8-3 final and the victory for the Lady Jags.

Mary Hayes Henderson led the Lady Jags with two hits. Anna Cate Henderson, Williams and Bushhorn collected one hit each. Hitchner scored two runs, while Anna Cate Henderson, Savage, Williams and Weeks scored one run each. Anna Cate Henderson tallied two RBIs. with Mary Hayes Henderson and Williams notching one RBI each.

Davis completed three innings on the mound, striking out two, walking one and giving up three unearned runs on three hits.
