Jags start slow, but knock off McAdory, 62-44, to advance in playoffs

The Northridge Jaguars came out of the game slow, not getting their first point on the board until 2:42 remained in the opening quarter. After that, the Jags tightened everything up and got the juices flowing and slowly and methodically built a lead and sustained that lead for a 62-44 win over the visiting McAdory Yellow Jackets.

As mentioned, the first two points of the game came on two free throws from Andrew Matthews, with the clock stopped at the 2:42 mark of the opening quarter. Northridge missed a total of 13 shots from the floor in the first quarter. Thankfully, McAdory wasn’t having much more success scoring themselves. After those first two from Matthews, the Jags did score five more, resulting in a 9-7 deficit after one quarter. The Jags warmed up considerably in the second quarter, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 16-5, resulting in a 9-pooint lead at the half, 23-14.

Northridge warmed up after the half and doubled their first half total, outscoring McAdory 23-13 in the third quarter. That gave the Jags a 19-point lead at 46-27. Northridge had another good output in the final quarter, scoring another 16 points while allowing 17. Even though they were outscored that quarter, the big lead from the previous quarter resulted in the 18-point margin of victory for the 62-44 win.

Nine Jags filled a spot in the scoring column against McAdory. Jordan Suiter led Northridge with 13 points. Miles Phifer and Jalen Green added 11 points each. Anderson Wilkin and Adam Hall totaled eight points each. Andrew Matthews contributed five points. James Walked hit a 3-pointer. Kyle Nunnally had two points and Tavares Jones made one free throw.

The Jags will travel to Montgomery on Thursday, to take on the Benjamin Russell Wildcats at 4:30pm at Alabama Sate University.
