Jags subdue Panthers, 59-27
The Northridge Jaguars hosted the Brookwood Panthers on Friday and came away with a 32-point win. The Jags only held an 12-point lead at the half at 21-9, but lit up the board for 38 in the second half en route to the 59-27 victory.
The Jags jumped out to a 7-point lead after one quarter, 11-2. By the time halftime rolled around, Northridge had extended that lead to 21-9 over the Panthers.
Northridge came out hot to open the second half, scoring more in the third quarter than the previous two combined. Brook wood also matched their entire output of the first half, resulting in a 44-18 lead for the Jags. In the final quarter, Northridge added another 15 to the Panthers’ nine. The Jags walked away with a 59-27 area win.
The Jags and Panthers were even matched in shooting percentages on the night, with the Jags hitting an overall 38.3% from the field and the Panthers hitting 34.8%. The Jags shot 16.1% from deep and the Panthers shot 15.4%. The Panthers were 6-for-10 for 60% on 2-point shots. However, the Jags hit 18 of 29 shots, for 62%. The extra 12 two point shots accounted for 24 points, a significant difference. The Jags hit 8 out of 10 free throws (80%) and the Panthers went 9-for17 from the line (52.9%).
Northridge scored 32 points off turnovers to the Panthers’ 12. The Jags committed 11 turnovers and the Panthers committed 34.
Northridge didn’t get a single player in double digits, but spread the scoring out with 11 Jags putting points on the board. Anderson Wilkin and Jordan Suiter led the Jags with eight points each. Jalen Green and Andrew Matthews added seven points each. Kyle Nunnally and Tavares Jones totaled six points each. (Jones was 3-for-3 from the field.) Adam Hall added five points. Ryan Halperin and Miller James contributed four points each. Garrett Ingram and Alex Warren rounded out the Jags’ scoring with two points each.
Halperin grabbed seven rebounds for the Jags. Wilkin totaled four rebounds. Nunnally and Hall totaled three rebounds each. Matthews, Suiter and James grabbed two rebounds apiece. Green, James Walker, and Jones tallied one rebound each.
