Jaguars basketball comes up short in season opener, 48-35

The Northridge boys basketball team hosted the Pinson Valley Indians for their season opener on Monday. The Jags held the lead after one quarter, 8-4, but were outscored in the three remaining quarters and eventually fell, 48-35.

The Jags doubled up the Indians in the first quarter, outscoring them 8-4. Northridge matched their first quarter output in the second, however, Pinson Valley scored 16 to take a 20-16 halftime lead.

The Indians matched their second quarter output of 16 and the Jags could just surpassed doubled digits, scoring 11 in the third quarter. That put Pinson Valley in control at 36-27. Northridge only managed eight points in the fourth quarter, while the Indians added 12, leaving the final score at 48-35.

Neither team shot particularly well, with the Jags hitting 38.1% from the floor and the Indians hitting 43.9% from the floor. The Jags were 3-of-17 from behind the arc and the Indians were 4-of-16. Northridge was 0-for-2 from the charity stripe and Pinson Valley was 8-for-13.

No Jags ended in double figures on the evening. Jordan Suiter led with eight points Anderson Wilkin followed with six. Jalen Green added five, while Tavares Jones and Adam Hall added four each. Garrett Ingram and Andrew Matthews chipped in three each and Ryan Halperin added two.

Suiter led Northridge with twelve rebounds. Hall added five rebounds and Wilkin collected four rebounds. Green and Halperin brought down three rebounds each. Kyle Nunnally, Ingram and Tavares Jones had one rebound each.
