Lady Jags and Holy Spirit tie, 7-7, in time limit game
The Northridge Jaguars softball team met up with the host team of the Holy Spirit tournament on Saturday afternoon. After the second inning, it looked like the Lady Jags would get to claim the victory. However, the Saints put up a fight and eventually tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. With two outs, the game clock at 0:00 and the game tied at 7-7, Northridge tagged out a Holy Spirit runner at home plate to avoid a loss on the evening.
Northridge got off to a solid start, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Anna Grace Reed led off with a double to center and moved to third on a passed ball. Kenslee Ringo acquired first base by drawing a walk. Ringo advanced to second without a throw. Anna Cate Henderson sacrificed to score Reed and move Ringo to third. Mary Hayes Henderson singled to center, scoring Ringo and giving Northridge a 2-0 lead. That would be the end of the Lady Jags’ scoring in the first inning. Holy Spirit scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning, resulting in a 3-2 lead for the Saints.
Northridge rallied in the top of the second to score five runs and take a 7-3 lead. Caroline Pate doubled to center to start the inning for the Lady Jags. Ava Aaron singled and took second on the throw, with Pate ending up at third. Reed single to center, scoring Pate to tie the game at 3-3 and advancing Aaron to third and Reed to second. Ringo drew a walk to load the bases. Anna Cate Henderson singled to right and took second on the throw. Aaron and Reed scored to make the score 5-3. Ringo held at third. After two outs, Riley Hollingshead singled to left, allowing Ringo and Anna Cate Henderson to score. Hollingshead was caught attempting to take second, ending the inning with the Lady Jags holding a 7-3 lead.
Northridge held Holy Spirit off the board until the bottom of the fourth, when a triple cleared the bases of three runners and tied the score at 7-7. A throw to third got loose, and the Holy Spirit runner headed home, but was tagged out at the plate, ending the game with a 7-7 tie, due to the time limit.
