Lady Jags cruise in first game of area tourney, 51-10
The Northridge Lady Jags basketball team made a statement in their first game of the AHSAA Class 6A Area 6 tournament on Saturday afternoon against the Brookwood Lady Panthers. Despite being outscored 6-2 in the final quarter, Northridge claimed a 41-point win to advance to the area championship on Tuesday.
The Lady Jags started the game with their signature full court press against the Lady Panthers, who took less that five shots for the entire quarter. Northridge went for 13 points while holding Brookwood to only two, for the 13-2 lead. Continuing the pressure, the Lady Jags held their opponents scoreless in the second quarter, while scorching the nets for 22, resulting in a 35-2 halftime lead.
Northridge cooled off a bit after halftime, adding 14 points to their total. The Lady Panthers managed another two points, bringing the Lady Jags lead to 45-point lead at 49-4. Brookwood outscored Northridge in the final quarter by scoring six points to the Lady Jags two. The result was a 51-10 win for the Lady Jags.
RB Norris connected on six 3-point shots, leading Northridge with 22 points. Aleia Morrell added 15 for the Lady Jags. Ava Maye chipped in seven. Bayne Brown added five and Taylor Ivory contributed two.
The Lady Jags will meet the Paul W. Bryant Lady Stampede on Tuesday at 6pm at The Ridge for the area championship.
