Lady Jags cruise in home opener

The Northridge Lady Jags basketball team cruised in their home opener against the visiting Homewood Patriots on Monday. Northridge kept the Patriots in check, only allowing a high of 13 points to be scored in the third and fourth quarters. The Lady Jags held a 10-point lead after one quarter and continued to build on that, ending up with a 30-point victory on opening night at The Ridge.

Taylor Ivory paced Northridge in the first quarter, scoring half of the team total with six points of the Lady Jags’ 12-2 advantage after one quarter. Northridge extended their lead to 25-9 at halftime. Aleia Morrell scored five of the Lady Jags’ second quarter total of 13.

The Lady Jags kept the pedal down after halftime. Northridge built off of the 12-point and 13-point first half quarter and scored 17 in the third, with Jakeya Horton and Ivory scoring five points each. The final quarter was the biggest for the Lady Jags, scoring 21 points in the final stanza. Ryan Barndenwerper got heated up, scoring 11 points in the quarter. When the final buzzer sounded, the Lady Jags claimed the 63-33 win.

Bardenwerper led Northridge with 18 points. Ivory followed closely, scoring 14. Horton totaled 13 points on the evening. Morrell finished with seven and La’Miah Foy totaled five. Ava Maye and Bayne Brown had three points each.

Horton led the Lady Jags with 10 rebounds. Foy grabbed six rebounds and Ivory totaled five. Maye collected four rebounds. Morrel totaled two rebounds and Bardenwerper was credited with one rebound.

The Lady Jags totaled 12 assists and had 12 steals on the evening.
