Lady Jags get 7-2 win over Sipsey

After a couple of setbacks, the Northridge Lady Jags softball team got a win over the Sipsey Valley Lady Bears on Saturday, in the Holt Tournament. The shortened game saw Northridge swap early leads with Sipsey and eventually take a final lead in the third and adding a few insurance runs late, en route to a 7-2 victory.

After holding Sipsey in the top of the first inning, the Lady Jags got a run when Anna Reed doubled to lead off and scored on a passed ball, after advancing to third on a sacrifice by Mills Hitchner and a passed ball.

The Lady Bears rallied for their only two runs in the top of the third, to take a 2-1 lead. Northridge reclaimed the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third. Anna Cate Henderson singled to center after the first out for the Lady Jags. Hitchner singled to move Henderson to second. Rhylynn Page’s ground ball resulted in an error, which loaded the bases for Northridge. With Kenzlee Ringo in to run for Page, Mary Hayes Henderson grounded out to first, allowing Anna Cate Henderson to score, with Hitchner and Ringo moving up one base. Next up, Elliott Williams singled to center, scoring Ringo and Hitchner, before Williams was out at second to end the inning. However, the Lady Jags had claimed a 4-2 lead.

The Lady Bears failed to score in the top of the fourth, giving the Lady Jags the opportunity to add three more in the bottom of the inning. With one out, Ringo picked up a single. Shelby Savage’s hard grounder turned into an error, which allowed Ringo to advance to third and Savage to get to second. Anna Reed’s grounder resulted in another error, scoring Ringo and Savage. Mills Hitchner produced the final run of the game, singling to center to score Reed. The game ended as a 7-2 win for the Lady Jags, due to time limit enforcement.

Hitchner led Northridge at the plate, going 2-for-3. Reed, Anna Cate Henderson, Page, Williams, Abston, Sarah Copeland and Ringo collected one hit each. Reed and Williams totaled two RBIs each, with Hitchner and Mary Hayes Henderson adding one RBI each. Reed and Ringo scored twice each. Anna Cate Henderson, Hitchner, and Savage scored once each.

Anna Cate Henderson worked the four innings in the circle, striking out two and walking two, while surrendering two runs on three hits.
