Lady Jags headed to Area Tourney Championship

The Northridge Lady Jags cruised past the Brookwood Lady Panthers at The Ridge on Thursday evening. The win puts the Lady Jags in the championship game on Saturday against the Paul W. Bryant Lady Stampede.

Northridge opened the game with hot shooting and furious defense on the visitors from Brookwood. Northridge lit up the scoreboard in the first quarter and, with Ryan Bardenwerper’s 3-pointer at the buzzer, took a 31-5 lead. The second quarter saw a bit of a drop in the offensive output, but the Lady Jags went into halftime up 52-12, after Jakeya Horton dropped a bomb from behind the 3-point line as the buzzer sounded to end the first half.

While limiting the Lady Panthers to two points in the third quarter, Northridge added another 13 to their total. That allowed the Lady Jags to enter the fourth quarter leading 65-14. In its slowest scoring quarter of the night, the Lady Jags still outscored Brookwood 8-4, with Northridge claiming the 55-point win, 73-18.

Bardenwerper led the Lady Jags with 14 points and was followed closely by La’Miah Foy, who collected 13 points on the evening. Horton and Aleia Morrell totaled 10 points each. RB Norris knocked down three 3-pointers for a total of nine points. Taylor Ivory finished with five points. Za’Niyah Hudson collected four points. Milly Arsenault and Raley Hoggle inked three points each in the book. And Bayne Brown rounded out the scoring with two points.

Ava Maye and Hudson collected six rebounds each. Arsenault totaled five rebounds. Brown and Foy finished with four rebounds each.

Morrell had five steals and Ivory collected four. Horton had three thieveries.

Arsenault dished out five assist, leading the Lady Jags. Maye and Morrell passed out four assists apiece.

The Lady Jags will host the Class 6A Area 6 championship game at The Ridge on Saturday at 4PM.
