Lady Jags score 33 in double-header walk-fest with Bryant

The Northridge Lady Jags softball team hosted the Lady Stampede from Paul W. Bryant on Tuesday afternoon for a double-header at The Ridge. Both games lasted only three innings, with the Lady Jags scoring 33 runs on 13 hits, accompanied by 23 walks. The wins give Northridge a 2-0 area record.

Northridge 17, Bryant 0

The Lady Jags scored all 17 of their runs, collected 11 of their 14 walks and all three of their hits in the bottom of the first inning. The last two outs of the inning were due to runners (intentionally) leaving the base early, before the pitch.

Northridge had one batter hit by pitch to lead off the bottom of the second, then had three walks. All three outs were due to leaving the base before a pitch.

Madelyn Abston, Anna Cate Henderson and Millie Tucker had one pit each for the Lady Jags. Abston, Caroline Pate, Anna Cate Henderson, Mary Hayes Henderson, Sarah Copeland, Tucker, Riley Hollingshead and Kenzlee Ringo scored two runs each. Anna Grace Reed scored one run. Copeland was credited with two RBIs, with Abston, Pate and Anna Cate Henderson getting credit for one RBI apiece.

Mary Hayes Henderson completed three innings on the mound, striking out six and giving up no runs, hits or walks.

Northridge 16, Bryant 0

Game 2 of the double-header was similar to Game 1, but with more hits and fewer walks. The Lady Jags managed seven hits and saw a reduction down to only nine walks in their two turns at the plate. Scoring was split between the first and second innings, with 10 of the Northridge runs coming in the second inning. The only intentional out of Game 2 was the final out for the Lady Jags in the bottom of the second inning.

After a 1-2-3 top of the first inning from the Lady Stampede, Abston started things by drawing a walk and stealing second. After a line drive was caught for the first out, Abston stole third. Reed drew a walk and took second. Anna Cate Henderson’s grounder to short, resulted in an error and allowed Abston and Reed to score (2-0). Copeland singled. However, a runner was thrown out at home for the second out. Berkley Davis singled to short and claimed second without a throw. Ava Aaron was hit by pitch, loading the bases. Jay Hosmer drew a walk, scoring Copeland (3-0). Danni Franklin singled to center and took second on the throw, scoring Davis and Hollingshead (running for Aaron) for the 5-0 lead. Abston reached on an error, with Hosmer scoring (6-0). That would be all the scoring for the bottom of the first.

Northridge added a 10-spot in the bottom of the second and ended the inning with another intentional walk-off before a pitch. Anna Cate Henderson led off with a double to left. Copeland followed with a double to left, scoring Anna Cate (7-0). Davis followed with a walk and Aaron walked, loading the bases. Copeland, Davis and Hollingshead (in for Aaron) scored on passed balls (10-0). A double play handed the Lady Jags their first outs of the inning. Abston drew a walk and Pate was hit by pitch. Reed doubled, scoring Abston and Pate (12-0). Anna Cate Henderson reached on an error, which allowed Reed to score (13-0). Copeland drew a walk and advanced to second without a throw. Davis was hit by pitch to load the bases. Aaron singled, scoring Anna Cate Henderson and Copeland (15-0). Davis scored the final run of the game on a wild pitch (16-0) and Hollingshead (running for Aaron) stepped off the bag at third for the final out.

Copeland led the Lady Jags at the plate, collecting two hits. Reed, Anna Cate Henderson, Davis, Aaron and Franklin tallied one hit each. Reed, Anna Cate Henderson, Aaron and Franklin totaled two RBIs apiece. Copeland and Hosmer had one RBI each. Copeland and Davis score three runs each. Abston, Reed and Anna Cate Henderson had scored two runs apiece. Pate and Hosmer scored one run each.

Pate got the win on the mound, allowing no runs on two hits, striking out one and issuing no walks.
