Lady Jags Softball drops home opener, 10-2

The Lady Jags Softball team had a rough opening day at The Ridge, hosting American Christian Academy from across town. The score was close through the first three innings, but the Lady Patriots pulled away in the fourth and never looked back, handing the Lady Jags a 10-2 loss.

As the visiting team, the Lady Patriots scored one run in the top of the first inning. The Lady Jags evened things up with a run of their own in the bottom half. Anna Grace Reed led off with a single and advanced to third on a double by Madelyn Abston. Reed then scored on a double play ball, later in the inning, for the 1-1 tie at the end of one.

The Lady Patriot added another run in the top of the second, to take a 2-1 lead. The Lady Jags failed to score in the bottom of the inning.

ACA plated three runs in the top of the fourth. Shelby Savage led off the Lady jags’ half with a walk and later came around to score on an infield grounder by Lily Feely. The Lady Patriots led 5-2 at the end of four.

The Lady Patriots would tack on five more insurance runs, two in the sixth inning and three in the top of the seventh, resulting in the 10-2 final.

Reed, Abston and Avery Vick notched two hits each for the Lady Jags. Mary Hayes Henderson, Elliott Williams, Savage and Feely collected one hit each. Reed and Savage scored one run each. Feely collected one RBI.

Anna Cate Henderson spent the full seven innings on the mound, tallying four strikeouts and giving up two walks.
