Lady Jags survive walk-a-thon against Central

Some days, it’s hard to find the strike zone. Other days, it’s even worse. The Lady Falcons had one of those days against the Lady Jags on Tuesday at The Ridge. Northridge drew a total of 26 walks over two games of a double-header with Central – 14 in Game 1 and 12 in Game 2. The result was a pair of 17-2 wins for the Lady Jags. Both games only lasted three innings each.

Game 1 saw the Lady Jags take a 15-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Walks were the feature of the bottom of the inning for the Lady Jags. However, Anna Cate Henderson did pick up a triple and Avery Vick notched a double in the inning.

The scoreboard was silent in the second inning for both teams. The Lady Falcons picked up two runs in the top of the third, to make the score 15-2. In the bottom of the third, AC Henderson picked up a single, as the second batter of the inning. Shelby Savage drove Henderson in with a triple to right. Next up, Vick grounded to first to drive in Vick, ending the game at 17-2, due to the 15-run rule.

AC Henderson collected two hits, to lead the Lady Jags in Game 1. Savage and Vick tallied one hit each. AC Henderson scored three runs. Anna Grace Reed, Madelyn Abston, Mary Hayes Henderson, Elliott Williams, Savage, and Vick score two runs each. Sarah Copeland and Lily Feely scored one run each.

Mary Hayes Henderson finished a complete game in the circle, striking out nine Central batters.

Game 2 matched the score of Game 1, but with a little different makeup. Central scored a single run in the top of the first, to take a brief one run lead. However, the lady Jags dropped 16 in the bottom of the inning. Savage and Copeland picked up singles for Northridge in the bottom half of the inning. Mary Hayes Henderson picked up a single and a double, while AC Henderson picked up a double. Reed notched a triple for the Lady Jags. The result was a 16-1 lead for Northridge.

The second inning was quiet for both teams in Game 2, just like it was in Game 1. Central picked up one run in the top of the third to make the score 16-2. For the Lady Jags, Vick started off the bottom of the third with a single. Three straight walks to Abston, Hollyn Brooks and Feely plated Vick to enact the 15-run rule and give the Lady Jags another 17-2 victory.

Mary Hayes Henderson led the Lady Jags in Game 2 with three hits and Savage followed with two hits. Reed, AC Henderson, Vick and Copeland collected one hit each. Vick scored three runs in Game 2. Reed, Savage, Mary Hayes Henderson, Williams, AC Henderson, and Copeland scored twice each. Brooks and Berkley Davis scored once.

Davis pitched two innings, striking out four and Feely completed one complete inning in the circle for the Lady Jags.
