Lady Jags sweep Bryant series, 14-2 and 23-8

The Paul W. Bryant Lady Stampede visited The Ridge on Wednesday for a double headers against the Lady Jags. Game 1 was a regularly scheduled game, while Game 2 was a makeup for a game that was rescheduled due to weather. The Lady Jags took Game 1 by a score of 14-2 and handled business with an 18-run third inning in Game 2, winning 23-8, and taking the series without the need for a third game.

GAME 1

Game 1 saw the Lady Jags put three runs on the board. Anna Grace Reed, Anna Cate Henderson and Elliott Williams scored the Lad Jags’ three runs. Williams and Rhylynn Page gots hits in the inning.

The Lady Jags lit up the scoreboard with eight runs in the third inning. Shelby Savage scored twice in the inning, with Reed, Lily Feely, Madelyn Abston, Mary Hayes Henderson, Williams scoring once for the Lady Jags. Reed notched an inside-the-park home run, Anna Cate Henderson, Williams and Feely collected doubles and Abston registered a single in the bottom of the second.

Bryant tallied a run of their own in the top of the third inning. Northridge picked up another three in the bottom of the third, running the score to 14-1. Anna Cate Henderson and Page picked up singles for the Lady Jags. Abston, Mary Hayes Henderson and Anna Cate Henderson scored runs for Northridge.

The Lady Jags gave the scoreboard a break in the bottom of the fourth and the Lady Stampede picked up a run in the top of the fifth for the 14-2 final

Anna Cate Henderson, Williams and Page collected two hits each for Northridge. Abston and Feely had one hit each. Anna Cate Henderson led the Lady Jags with three RBIs. Williams, Page, Vick and Feely added two RBIs each. Anna Cate Henderson scored three runs with Abston, Mary Hayes Henderson, Williams and Savage scoring two times each. Feely scored once.

Anna Cate Henderson went the distance in the circle, striking out eight, giving up two walks and two runs on three hits.

GAME 2

The Lady Stampede jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning of Game 2. However, the Lady Jags put five on the board in the bottom half. Hits by Reed, Mary Hayes Henderson and a homer by Page aided in the collection of runs for Northridge. The home run by Page was a two-run shot, scoring Reed and Henderson scored on a wild pitch.

The Lady Stampede scored three runs in the second, while the Lady Jags didn’t touch the plate.

Bryant tacked four runs on the board in the top of the third, taking a 8-5 lead. However, the Lady Jags gave the scoreboard more than it could handle in a single inning, scoring 18 runs in the bottom of the third, ending the game at 23-8.

The Lady Jags scored the 23 runs on 5 hits with the help of 20 walks. Reed, Mary Hayes Henderson, Page, Williams and Sarah Copeland picked up the five hits for Northridge. Copeland collected two RBIs with Page, Savage, Feely and Berkley Davis getting single RBIs. Williams, Savage and Feely scored three times each. Anna Cate Henderson, Page, Mills Hitchner, Davis and Copeland scored twice each. Mary Hayes Henderson and Laura Bushhorn scored one run each.

The Henderson sisters shared duties in the circle. Mary Hayes completed two innings, striking out five, walking four and giving up two hits. Anna Cate completed one inning, striking out two, walking three – without giving up a hit. They each gave up four runs.
