Northridge Basketball teams bring back wins from MS

The Northridge girls and boys basketball teams returned home with wins over the Hew Hope (MS) Trojans on Tuesday evening. The Lady Jags claimed a 27-point win, 62-35, and the Jags claimed a 16-point win, 54-38.

Lady Jags 62, Lady Trojans 35
Aleia Morrell recorded a double-double, scoring 19 points and collecting 11 rebounds. Morrell also added two assists. Jakeya Horton had 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals. Taylor Ivory added nine points, one rebound five assists and five steals. La’Miah Foy scored seven points, grabbed five rebounds and collected four steals. Ryan Bardenwerper and Ava Maye scored four points each. Bardenwerper collected eight rebounds, five steals and dished out five assists. Maye totaled six rebounds, three assists and one steal. Malia Barrera and Bayne Brown chipped in three points each. Barrera had three rebounds and one steal, while Brown added two rebounds.

Of note, Horton moved into Northridge’s Scoring Top 10 and now has a total of 802 points for her career.

Jaguars 54, Trojans 38
After one quarter of play, the Jags found themselves at a two point deficit to the Trojans, trailing 11-9. Northridge turned up the defense in the second quarter, only allowing two points by the Trojans, while scoring 19, resulting in a 19-13 halftime lead. In the third, the Trojans edged the Jags in scoring 15-14, but Northridge more than doubled up New Hope in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Trojans 21-10. When the final buzzer sounded, Northridge claimed the 54-38 win.

Nine Jags got into the scoring column on Tuesday. Adam Hall led Northridge with 11 points. Hall also added five rebounds and three steals. Tavares Jones scored eight points and collected five rebounds. Garrett Ingram had seven points and grabbed two rebounds. Mayson Elam and Elias Fleming tallied six points and two rebounds each. Mize Parker and Miller James totaled five points each. James added three rebounds. Ben Leitner scored four points and Chase Murphy rounded out the scoring with two.

The Jags were 13-for-25 on their 2-point attempts and 5-for-23 from behind the arc. Northridge made 13 of 17 free throw attempts. The Jags were +7 in the turnover column.
