Northridge girls soccer claims Warrior Invitational title
The Northridge Varsity girls soccer team finished 2-1 on the weekend, claiming the title at the Warrior Invitational Tournament, held at Thompson High School this past weekend. The Jags opened the tournament by defeating Calera, 6-2. Ella Johnson and Mary Carson James scored first half goals for the Jags, both off assists from Emma Sanderford. Northridge held a 2-1 lead at halftime. In the second half, James added two more goals and an assist for the Jags. Kenley Myers added a goal and an assist in the second half, and Freshman Maddie Vanderlyke rounded out the scoring for the game.
In a rematch of the 2022 Final Four game, Northridge shut out St Paul’s (Mobile), 1-0. The Jags completely controlled the first half,but failed to get on the board, leading to a halftime score of 0-0. Kenley Myers promptly got the Jags on the board, scoring only 20 seconds into the second half off an assist from Mary Carson James. The Jags then held on, keeping St. Paul’s off the board to close out with the 1-0 win.
To close out the weekend, the Jags played Class 7A Foley. Things started slowly for the Jags, who gave up an early goal to find themselves down 1-0. Despite dominating the remainder of the game, with multiple opportunities and several close calls, the Jags were unable to capitalize and failed to get the ball into the net. Despite the 1-0 loss, the Jags claimed the tournament title on points, finishing as Warrior Invitational Tournament Champions.
