Tale of the Tape: ACA Edition

After being down 14-0, the Jags pulled off a 17-point comeback to take a 17-14 win, thanks to a 32-yard FG from Caleb Scofield.

In the passing/receiving category . . . Rowdy Christensen went 6-for-14 for 107 yards. Mayson Elam caught four passes for 49 yards, with a long of 17 yards. Parker Cline caught two passes for 16 yards, including a longest catch for 17 yards. Colin Kapilovic hauled in one pass for 37 yards. Keith Powell caught one pass for 5 yards, which came on a crucial 4th and 5 conversion, that preceded the game tying touchdown and PAT.

In the rushing category . . . Jaylin McCray tallied 94 yards on 20 carries and one touchdown, with a longest run of 15 yards. Jacob Hall had 8 carries for 22 yards, including a longest run of 10 yards. Christensen had six carries for four yards and Colin Kapilovic had two carries for two yards.

The Jags ended the evening with 229 yards of total offense, with 122 coming on the ground and 107 through the air.

McCray led the Jags with 178 all-purpose yards, by adding 84 kick return yards to his 94 yards rushing. Mayson Elam added 23 yards to his 49 rushing yards for a total of 72 all-purpose yards.

Notables: The Jags lost two of three total fumbles. If this becomes a common theme, it could bite the Jags going forward. Everybody who watches college and professional football knows just how valuable kickers can be to the win column. Well, the same thing holds true in high school football. There aren’t a lot of really good high school kickers who can get you three points consistently from 30+ yards out. When you have one, it can change your season. Last but not least, the Jag defense only gave up one offensive touchdown to the Patriots. They kept the Jags within striking distance the entire game and came up BIG in OT.
