Jags open Mako Classic with win over Chilton County
The Northridge boys basketball team started their Thanksgiving Break with a trip to Orange Beach to take part in the Mako Classic. First up for the Jags was Chilton County. Northridge built a lead in quarters one through four, then exploded for 34 points in the final quarter to claim a 30 point victory over the Tigers. The final result was a 78-48 opening round win.
After besting the Tigers 18-13 in the first quarter, the Jags added another 14 while allowing 11, resulting in an 8-point halftime lead at 32-24. The quarterly scoring gap narrowed in the third quarter, with the Jags scoring 12 and the Tigers adding 9, for a 44-33 lead. Then, Northridge caught fire and scored 34 points in the final period. Chilton County did have its best quarterly output of the game, scoring 15 points. Even so, the Jags walked away with a 78-48 victory.
Elias Fleming led the Jags with 19 points. Mize Parker followed with 12 points. Ben Leitner finished with nine and Garrett Ingram added eight. Tavares Jones chipped in seven points and Chase Murphy totaled six, with Andrew Matthews adding five. Graham Patton, Thomas Patton and Adam Hall contributed three points each. Owen Worrell chipped in two points and James Walked rounded out the Jags’ scoring column with one point.
Hall and Leitner led Northridge with six rebounds each. Parker secured four rebounds. Fleming, Jones and James added three rebounds each. Murphy, Walker, Matthews, Mayson Elam and John Crew contributed two rebounds each. Ingram rounded out the rebounding column with one rebound.
Northridge made 18 of 40 shots from 2-point range and hit 10 of 23 from 3-point range. The Jags were 12-for-14 from the free throw line.
