Jags Baseball secures Area sweep with 13-1 win over Central

The Northridge Jaguars baseball team secured an AHSAA Class 6A Area 6 sweep with their sixth win over area opponent Central. After defeating the Falcons on Tuesday, the Thursday victory gave the Jags a 6-0 record against their Area 6 opponents (Brookwood, Central and Paul W. Bryant). Matthew Weyer and Brock Brewer combined to give up only one hit on the afternoon. John Pruet, Cole McCreary and Cooper Obradovich were perfect at the plate, with Pruet going 2-for-2 and McCreary and Obradovich going 1-for-1. In total, the Northridge collected 11 hits for the game.

After the Falcons failed to score in the top of the first inning, the Jags scored two runs. Mayson Elam scored on a single by Pruet and Evan Malone scored on deep grounder to short, to make it 2-0 in favor of the Jags.

The Jags added three more runs in the bottom of the second. Ford Cole scored the first on a wild pitch. Elam scored his second run on a wild pitch. Bus Payne was scored the third run, stealing home on a double steal to make the score 5-0, in favor of Northridge.

The Jags’ lone run of the third inning came on a sacrifice fly to center from the bat of Ford Cole, scoring Cooper Obradovich and giving Northridge a 6-0 lead.

After giving up a lone run in the top of the fifth inning, Northridge added another seven runs in the bottom of the inning. Obradovich drove in Pruet on a sacrifice to center. Cole drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Jags up 8-0. Miller Arendale scored on a passed ball and Elam followed with a double that plated Brock Story and Cole, pushing the score to 11-1 in favor of the Jags and qualify for a run-rule game. Northridge added two insurance runs. One of those came on a Malone double, which scored Elam for a 12-1 lead. Malone scored the final run of the game on a single by Cole McCreary, for the 13-1 Northridge lead.

The Jags held the Falcons scoreless in the top of the fifth to end the game in five innings, 13-1.

Elam collected two hits, scored three runs and had 2 RBIs. Malone had one hit, scored two runs and collected one RBI. Pruet collected two hits, scored one run and had one RBI. Cole McCreary went 1-for-1 at the plate and was credited with one RBI. Grayson Cannon had two hits, scored one run and was credited with one RBI. Bus Payne scored one run. Arendale had one hit and scored one run. Obradovich went 1-for-1, scored one run and collected one RBI. Story had one hit and scored one run.

Weyer got the start on the mound and completed four innings of work. Weyer gave up one run on one hit, while walking one and striking out six. Brewer recorded two strikeouts in one inning of relief and gave up no runs, hits or walks.
