Lady Jags subdue Lady Stampede, 65-36
Leading from the first basket of the game to the final buzzer, the Northridge Lady Jags basketball team claimed an area win over the Paul W. Bryant Lady Stampede on Friday night. Northridge amassed as much as a 31-point lead late in the game and ended the evening with a 29-point area victory, 65-36.
The Lady Jags got off to a good start, finishing the first quarter of play with an 11-point lead at 18-7. Northridge continued their momentum in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Stampede 19-6, resulting in their 24-point lead at the half, 37-13.
Bryant gathered a little momentum in the third, more that doubling their output of the entire first half, scoring 16 points. However, the Lady Jags added another 23 to their total, and ended the third quarter with a 31-point lead, 60-29. Scoring for both teams slowed in the final quarter, with the Lady Stampede outscoring the Lady Jags, 7-5. Regardless of the huge drop in output, the Lady Jags walked away with the 29-point win, 65-36.
Jakey Horton led Northridge with 21 points. Aleia Morrell was the only other Lady Jag in double-digits, with 11. Taylor Ivory chipped nine and Bayne Brown added eight. Malia Barrera contributed six points and LaMiah Foy finished with five. Ryan Bardenwerper had four and Ava Maye rounded out the scoring with one point.
Bardenwerper totaled six rebounds on the evening. Morrell and Maye grabbed five rebounds each. Ivory claimed four rebounds, Horton added three and Foy finished with two rebounds.
Bardenwerper dished out five assist for the Lady Jags and Barrera had two. Horton, Maye, Ivory, Foy and Morrell contributed one rebound each.
Morrell and Horton had four and three steals, respectively. Foy had two steals, with Bardenwerper, Maye, Ivory, and Barrera collecting one steal each.
