Second half comeback advances Jags to Mako Classic title game
On Day 2 of the Mako Classic in Orange Beach, the Northridge Jaguars needed a second half comeback to advance to the title game. After heading into halftime trailing 38-16, the Jags flipped the script and outscored their hosts 33-12. The result was a 49-40 win and a ticket to the title game on Tuesday.
After one quarter, the Jags found themselves trailing the Makos 11-7. Things didn’t get any better in the second quarter, with the Orange Beach outscoring Northridge 17-9, giving the Makos a 38-16 lead.
Northridge evidently reset during halftime and came out hot in the third quarter, outscoring Orange Beach 21-6. And, although the scoring cooled off for the Jags in the fourth quarter, the revived defense only allowed another six points to go with the 12 that the Jags put on the board themselves. When the final horn sounded, Northridge claimed the 49-40 victory.
Elias Fleming led the Jags with 17 points. Andrew Matthews added 10 points and Mize Parker totaled nine. Tavares Jones chipped in three points. Chase Murphy, Garrett Ingram, Adam Hall, Miller James and Ben Leitner added two each for Northridge.
Jones collected seven rebounds for Northridge. Parker totaled five rebounds, James added four and Matthews collected three rebounds. Walker, Mayson Elam, Hall and Leitner totaled rebounds each. Murphy, Ingram and John Crew grabbed one rebound each.
The Jags hit 43% from 2-point range, 29% from 3-point range and 67% from the charity stripe.
